In order to be safe in the knowledge that the car you’re driving is perfectly safe and in sufficiently good condition to pass its next MOT test, you have to have total confidence in the braking system. The brake disc is a vital part of any such system. Every wheel has such a disc positioned on the wheel hub and, in the event of the brake pedal being depressed, a system of hydraulics will force the surface of the brake pads down onto this disc. The friction created by this pressure will slow the disc down, therefore slowing and eventually stopping the car.
Despite being robustly constructed, discs can become worn and damaged over time, and this will compromise their efficiency. That’s why they should be checked and replaced whenever necessary.
