The safety of any car, and its’ ability to keep passing MOT tests relies, in large part, upon the integrity of its braking system. A key component of that system is the brake disc. It is positioned on the wheel hub and uses friction to slow the car down when the brake pedal is depressed. A hydraulic piston forces the brake pads down on either side of the disc, and it’s this which reduces the motion of the wheel until it eventually stops altogether.

Despite the fact that they are constructed from high tensile steel, discs can become pitted or worn over time and will finally reach the stage where replacement is necessary. If left unchecked they will produce braking which is less than efficient and, for this reason, they should be monitored and replaced whenever needed.
